Rancho Cucamonga High School hosted nine schools and 230 runners in the second race of the Rancho Summer Series 2 Miler. On the boys side Rancho was not a gracious host as the Cougars placed their scoring five among the top eleven finishers. Junior Joey Del Valle-Rutherford edged out Josh Zavala of Colony for the win in 9:43. Junior Cory Megna crossed the line 16 seconds later clocking 9:59. Seniors Bijon Howell and Daniel Dolen took eighth (10:07) and tenth (10:09), while junior Chris Weiland rounded out the scoring five at eleventh at 10:13. Also running well for Rancho was Grant Sipos, Elliot Sanchez, Aaron Cortez, Marquise Holcomb, Darius Riley and Kolby Ratigan. The Cougars placed an impressive eleven runners in the top 25! On the girls side, senior Brittani Matthews battled one of the states top 800 meter runners, Rylee Penn of Corona Centennial to the finish just getting edged out with both clocking 11:24. Megan Maretti (12:07), Victoria Magana (12:47), Mia Saiza (12:52) and Ivy Vollaire (12:52) rounded out the top five for the girls team. Next up for the Cougars will be the Cool Breeze Invitational, the season opening meet on Saturday, September 5.
